When you hear the phrase “short end of the stick”, we all can agree – it’s usually not a “good” thing. One of the origins of the saying refers to Candles. Yes, Candles… Back in the day, when candles were the only nighttime light source, it was common knowledge that guests were to make their departure before the candlelight ran out. If a host didn’t want his guests to stay very long, he would choose a “short stick” for their visit.
As you head out to the many celebrations, dinners and office parties this season; keep an eye on the ‘candle’ (time) and make sure you leave before the lights go out.
