“Help, I’ve been invited to a ‘Gender Reveal’ party. The invitation does not say it’s a shower. I’ve never heard of this type of party, what should I expect and should I take a gift?” – Audrey
A Gender Reveal baby ‘shower’ is the hot new trend for expectant parents. It’s a fun way to gather friends and family to announce whether the couple will be having a boy or a girl. Some couples even go so far as to keep the surprise from themselves – waiting for the party to share the exciting announcement with their family and friends. To accomplish this, they ask the ultrasound technician and/or doctor to put the gender of the baby in a sealed envelope. Then they take the envelope to either the bakery for cupcakes to be covertly baked with pink or blue filling, or the party supply store for pink or blue balloons to be hidden safely in a box. At the party they either bite into the cupcake, or open the box, to reveal the announcement of pink, blue or both.As to the question about taking a gift: For the Gender Reveal Party, I would recommend taking a box of diapers and wipes… you know the expectant parents will need them :-). Then once you find out the gender, you can pick up a gift that is a bit more personal for the baby’s arrival.
