Manner Monday: “When are you going to have kids?”

As seen on:

“When are you going to have kids?” or “Do you have children?” both seem like seemingly innocent questions.  But to those without kids, or to those who are struggling with infertility, the question can leave them feeling as though the proverbial bus has just hit them.

If you do not know the person well, try asking something along the lines of “what plans do you have for the weekend?”  If they do have children, it will more than likely come up in the conversation as they answer your question.

By focusing on what the person is saying, instead of being nervous about what we are going to say next, will help the conversation flow much more smoothly.
