Manner Monday: Uncle Sam wants your money!

As seen on:

Can you believe it’s April already? … April means Spring has Sprung and April also unfortunately means, your taxes are due.

I was visiting with our CPA the other day.  She said she recently was asked, “If the government shuts down on April 8th, do I still have to file my taxes?”

Guess what? …I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Yes!  So I thought it timely to share a little tip to make your life (and your CPA’s) a bit easier during this stressful time.

I asked Meredith Meacham Wilson, CPA, to share a pointer and here is her response:

“If your return is complicated / multi-part it may take more than 24 hours to get an answer…  Think about it in relationship to wine.  Wine gets better with age, so do the results of your taxes.”

So if you normally wait until you roll over the calendar in April to think about getting your paperwork to your CPA, place an annual reminder on your calendar March 1 (or even February 1) to take care of the necessary formalities and send them on over to your CPA… you’ll more than likely have a much better “return” on your efforts.
