Q – “I was invited to a bridal shower and could not attend so I was planning on sending my gift soon. Do I also get her a wedding gift? I debate this issue and usually buy for both, but wanted to check and get an official etiquette opinion. Thanks so much!” – Best, Tina
A – Various etiquette books dictate that if you did not attend the shower, you do not need to send a shower gift. You can send one gift as the ‘wedding gift’. If you DO attend the shower, then yes, two gifts, one for the shower and one for the wedding.
I know you didn’t ask, but I wanted to share a fun idea for the shower gift. We recently had a family member get married and were invited to numerous showers. One gift idea we came up with was for each my husband and I to each put our ‘favorite’ kitchen item with a note about it and why it was our favorite into nice kitchen strainer as a basket. His was a commercial grade garlic press and fresh garlic pods because he uses garlic in just about everything. Mine was a spice called ‘Adobo’… because I use IT in almost everything. We wrote a personal note about wishing them luck bringing their favorites into their kitchen to make it their own and spicing-up their home.

My goal is to help my students to feel more comfortable and confident in the social and professional skills; do you know someone who would enjoy this post?
