Manner Monday®: Name Tags

As seen on:

Name Tags

When attending a networking event, place your nametag on your upper right chest, close to your shoulder (but not too high).  It’s not a ‘deal breaker’, but extremely helpful to those whom you are meeting.  When extending your hand for a handshake, your body tends to shift a bit to the right.  By positioning your nametag up high, the person you are meeting will easily be able to view your name during the introduction.

Also, don’t forget:

  • Slow down and take a minute to ensure you write your name legibly and large enough for people to easily read.
  • Use your first and last name only.  Nametag space is limited and you want people to remember your name.  Save your company information (unless asked to include it) for conversation.
  • Make sure that your nametag is on straight – don’t just slap it on willy-nilly, it’s part of your ‘first impression’.
