Manner Monday: It’s about so much more than ‘just’ good table manners

Another season of our Expeditions In Etiquette programs kicked off this past week for our 5th-8th graders in the Oklahoma City metro area (and State).  We have students driving from as far away as Clinton and Weatherford, Shawnee and Tecumseh, Tishomingo and Milburn.  Some driving 2 hours one way.  Wow.  Not only am I honored, but I’m impressed at the commitment of the parents to get their children here.  With our over-scheduled and hectic lives, it’s nice to see so many families taking the time to work on the advancement of social skills.

In speaking with a number of parents as they dropped their children off for classes, I’m thankful for the many families who realize what we’re doing is about so much more than ‘just’ table manners.  Yes, table manners ARE important, and we definitely cover them. But of equal importance are the basic social skills we cover.  Teaching our students how these skills are going to help them feel comfortable and confident in both social and professional settings as they navigate their way to adulthood.

Our children are going to be facing the college application process soon, and not to mention job interviews.   My goal is to provide students the learning opportunity to practice and master these skills so they will be ready to tackle those tasks with confidence.

Thank you for your continued support – I love my job and I love meeting so many really amazing families!

We do still have space in some of our programs and can get your child caught up during class two.  Please email or call me if you have questions and would like to get your child involved.

And yes… our son participates in the program.  And in case you’re wondering… NO, he is far from perfect!  He’s 11 and he’s ‘all boy’ (eating like a Neanderthal and acting like a typical tween-age boy).  🙂

Do you have a ‘manner’ or question you would like to see covered next week in Manner Monday?  Feel free to send me your thoughts, I would love to hear from you.

My goal is to help my students (both youth and adults) to feel more comfortable and confident in the social and professional skills; do you know someone who would enjoy this post?  If so, please share it and encourage them to sign up to receive Manner Monday?  I would appreciate it!  And if you’re new to Manner Monday, I’d love for you to take a minute to learn more about why I started it. You can click here to read my very first post that tells all about it.

Thanks for reading!
